PSP Game Downloads

I’m quite surprised that Sony haven’t launched some form of Game download facility for the PSP yet. I did mention that they may be avoiding the potential issue of allowing homebrewers to get their hands on game content that can officially run from the Memory Stick Duo, but its still seems to be a huge gap in the market.

And I’m not just talking about fully fledged UMD style games either, but rather PSP games such as solitaire, mahjong, breakout/arknoid, pinball etc. The sort of games that you get when you install windows on your PC. The kind of games that you play for ten minutes when you’ve nothing else to do and you don;t want to fire up Grand Theft Auto.

These kind of games could easily be downloaded to the Memory Stick Duo, and would be a nice addition to PSP’s standard functions. These sort of games are being written by homebrew developers for the PSP all the time, and some are incredibly polished pieces of software. If Sony would open their eyes to the possibilities, and see that the market is ready for downloadable official content (that doesn’t require a firmware update) then they would be winning fans rather than annoying the people that help keep it in business be constantly crushing the homebrew scene, which is the only way PSP owners can be supplied with the content they desire.
