PSP NeoGeo Emulator

In between trying to get my wireless network to function properly, which should allow me to use the PSP Media Server software if it was setup properly, and playing Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories, I’ve been playing a few games on the NeoGeoCD emulator.

The thing that I find remarkable about this emulator is the fact that it runs on the PSP with virtually no slowdown or lag whatsoever. I’m not sure if this is down to the power of the PSP of the efficiency of the emulator code, but either way, its one of the few emulators on the PSP that I actually come back to time and time again.

The NeoGeoCD emulator has a lovely interface design, is intuitive to use, but not that easy to get up and running as you require some pieces of software alongside the emulator code itself, which are not particularly obvious in any of the documentation. You need to obtain the NeoGeoCD Bios file, and you need to get hold of a NeoGeoCD game iso file, which you then need to extract the game content from.

Both of these last two items you should only have if you own a NeoGeoCD console and the relevant games you wish to play. Again, the legality of the emulator revolves around whether you own the device and games already, and even that may not be sufficient enough to argue your rights to run the NeoGeoCD games on your PSP.

If you do get the NeoGeoCD emulator up and running, you will find its one of the most polished emulators available on the PSP, and an enjoyable way to spend 10 minutes playing some of the old classic games that were available on the NeoGeoCD.
