PSP Wireless Connection Problems

As is always the case, I’ve managed to take a step backwards when trying to get something to work rather than a strp forward. The problem? My Sony PSP and its wi-fi connection.

Up until I started trying to get the PSP Media Server working, I could happily browse the web using my PSP over the wireless connection I have setup at home, which uses a NetGear DG834GT 108mbs Router.

Now that I’ve started playing around with the PSP Media Server, and trying to get my PSP to see the localhost on my PC, I can no longer get onto the internet. The reason for this is that while trying to understand why I couldn’t get a connection to the localhost, I changed a few things on the Router setup and have now messed it up to the point that the PSP cannot see the internet. Of course I didn’t make a note of any of the pre-change settings, so I’ve now got to go through the whole setup process to try and fix it.

For anyone who is interested, the error code my PSP web browser returns is :

“Communication with the server failed. (8001006F)”

Searching on the web doesn’t throw up too many hits for this error code, so I’m trying to fix this issue blind. Once I’ve got my PSP back online and working, I’ll put together a few notes on here to describe how I did it.

Theres nothing more infuriating that something that works, only to break it trying to get something else to work. Even more annoying is that I’ve not been using the PSP to surf the web that much, but as soon as it doesn’t work it becomes the most important thing to fix in the world.

UPDATE: I’ve sorted my issue out, I reset the PSP back to all its default settings, re-setup all the internet connection details and it now works – including the PSP Media Server software.

i’ve just bought sony psp and i have a netgear wireless router on Sky broadband, but for some reason they don’t want to allopw me to access the internet – maybe i’ve got the settings wrong. If you can help make the instructions simple

  2. Bob, try accessing your router from your PC (web browser, type in http://192.168.0.1, username admin, password is either password or sky) – click on the attached devices list and then try and connect to the internet using your PSP. You should see the PSP appear in the list of devices.

I assume that when you set the PSP up for the internet, it found your wi-fi connection OK?
