PS2 gets Grand Theft Auto Liberty City Stories Game
Take-Two have announced that Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories is going to be released on the PS2 on the 06/06/06. This is a delayed release as it was first announced as being available on the 24th April.
The reason for the delay hasn’t been specified, but the pricing has been announced. Expect to see the PS2 version of GTA:LCS to retail in the UK at around £20, which is the price point games normally reach when released on the platinum label, some months after their first release at full price.
The reasoning behind the £20 price point being choosen for GTA:LCS would seem to center around the fact that the game is not going to differ from the PSP version, so same missions, same city layout etc. This isn’t that surprising, there is little reason for Take-Two/Rockstar to invest time and money in re-devloping the game for the PS2 when it can be simply ported across and released to the public.
The GTA franchise is a strong one, and the game has many followers who will no doubt snap up copies of the game for the PS2 when its becomes available in June.
Whether there will be many sales of the game to PSP owners remains to be seen, I can’t imagine many people who own the PSP version rushing out and getting another copy of the game for the PS2, unless someone manages to find a save game exploit and gets the NeoGeoCD/SNES/GB emulator working…..
