PSP Race Driver 2006

Gamespot have got a review of the new PSP game Race Driver 2006.

This is a title I’m keen to add to my collection of racing games, so it was nice to read a comprehensive review of the game before parting with any money.

2004 was most certainly a choice year for gaming, but that said, the number of 2004 games that are finding their way onto the PlayStation Portable in 2006 is just a little disconcerting.

Codemasters is now in on the fray, too, releasing Race Driver 2006, which despite its largely recycled career mode, feels like a mostly new game, thanks to the addition of an all-new single-player mode, some new cars and tracks, and simulation racing that still feels tight and authentic on the PSP.

I had been wondering about the decision to release Race Driver 2006 on the PSP, given that Codemasters released Race Driver 3 on the PS2 earlier this year. Having played Race Driver 3 on the PS2, I was concerned that the PSP version of Race Driver 2006 would be a step backwards.

The review puts my fears to rest, making the game sound like an essential purchase for racing fans. Hopefully the fact that the difficulty level would appear to have been reduced will not be too detrimental to the gameplay, and the racing will still be enjoyable and most importantly, close.

PSP to get Myst Game

Joystiq has a few details on the classic game Myst being released on the Sony PSP sometime next month.

One of the best selling games ever, Myst is the kind of game that found its way into the school classroom last year, due to its mind numbingly boring gameplay and its infuriating puzzles.

For those unfamiliar with the game Myst, all the action takes place on an island, where you are faced with numerous puzzles to solve.

From the Wikipedia entry:

Each scene was modelled and rendered in StrataVision 3D, with some additional modelling in Macromedia MacroModel. Each image was edited and enhanced using Photoshop V1.0. ILM’s John Knoll released a Photoshop Plugin to lead artist Chuck Carter so as to read PICS animation format files in filmstrip form which helped with some of the animation editing and color correction. Video editing, compression and compositing were performed in Adobe Premiere.

The game involves you interacting with objects on the screen, and last time I played it I gave up after about 30 minutes, as clicking randomly on the screen to see what can be used and picked up drove me slightly mad.

I’m sure that Myst will sell by the bucket load on the PSP, but I don’t think I’ll be adding it to my collection.

PSP Colour Changing Skin

This is an interesting one, a PSP color changing skin case.

- Hyper Touch Technology (HTT) allows the NeXskin to change colors depending on the temperature.
- Three color tones in room, cold and warm temperatures.
- Enhanced with EAD (Enhanced Anti Dust) treatment.
- Soft low-profile, designed to form-fit your device.
- Equipped with an anti-slip coating to ensure a secure grip.
- Made of re-enforced flexible silicon to protect from bumps and scratches.
- Completely washable with mild soap and water to maximize reusability.
- Detachable belt clip clicks onto a removable screw.

I’m not sure how easy it is to use your PSP with this skin on, and the looks may not be to everyones taste, but I’m sure they’ll sell a few of these, especially at the $15 price point its being sold at.
