Sony PSP Sponsors HandHeld Conference

HandHeld Learning is probably a website you’ve not come across before, I certainly hadn’t until I saw the news that Sony are becoming a sponsor for the 2006 conference (via just about every PSP website).

“The purpose of the event is to bring together an international cross-section of policy and decision makers, academics, educators, developers, publishers and manufacturers; those who are experienced in mobile learning and those who are new to it, to share and expand knowledge and understanding of how mobile and pervasive technologies will profoundly affect learning and teaching.”

Its good to see Sony getting involved in events such as these, and if you are wondering what the PSP has to do with HandHeld learning -

This is an exciting turn of events as it demonstrates the overlap between gaming and learning in the home and at School/Uni using the capability of a powerful entertainment device in a learning context.

I guess there is a cross over of sorts between the PSP’s gaming ability and its more multimedia rich application capabilities. Now if only Sony would bring a homebrew equipped PSP to the conference and show how homebrew developers have been creating those rich multimedia applications that the device is capable of running.
