Sony Mylo
It would seem that some people are quick to stick the boot in when it come to Sony announcing its new products, and this time its the new Sony Mylo that is getting the flack. I guess it makes a change from it being the PSP.
RealTechNews has a list of 5 reasons why the Mylo is ‘doomed to fail’, including its cost, its inability to play games, and the shortage of Wi-Fi hotspots to take advantage of.
In some ways I agree with them – at $350 its just too expensive, this is the sort of device that should be sub $100. Add into that the Mylo’s current lack of MSN / AIM support then you question the purpose or appeal of the device to those who are hardcore instant messenger users.
It begs the question – why don’t Sony release a keyboard add-on to the PSP and add IM functionality to the handheld gaming device? Maybe they are seeing the dollar signs and believe the market can withstand two devices with similar demographic appeal but slightly different functionality that each cost upwards of $300 a piece.
