PSP Game Review – Ford Street Racing LA Duel

Ford Street Racing Cover

Ford Street Racing LA Duel is a reasonable attempt at a racing game on the PSP, but not one that has really managed to get me hooked.

The principle, like most racing games, is to complete races and unlock later levels, along with a larger choice of car to drive. The problem I’ve found with Ford Street Racing is that the racing is quite dull, and the incentive to progress through the game doesn’t really shine through.

The game itself is relatively bland looking, although if you are a Ford fan, and want the chance to drive some classic cars such as the RS2000 or Mustang, you may be able to forgive it its uninspiring looks.

The way the cars handle is perhaps best described as realistic, in that terminal understeer seems to be available in abundance unless you give the brakes a tap on turn in, in which case you’ll provoke a little oversteer but still end up hitting the outside wall.

Overall I found playing Ford Street Racing on the PSP slightly repetitive and dull, and have quickly switched back to Nascar 2007 and TOCA Race Driver as my driving games of choice. That isn’t to say Ford Street Racing doesn’t have some redeeming features, and for Ford fans its a reasonably nice way to get a go in those classic cars, bit long term I don’t think it will live up to the other PSP racing games that are out there.
