Sony Release 3.10 Firmware in Korea
Update: It appears the 3.10 firmware upgrade is now available in the US via the Network Update option. Please do not attempt to upgrade if you have previously downgraded your PSP, as there may be an issue with PSP’s being bricked.
Sony have released a new PSP Firmware, 3.10, in Korea. Not sure why this has been a Korean only release so far, but I’m sure it will be rolled out to the USA, Japan and Europe as soon as Sony confirm they have patched the GTA exploit successfully that is used to enable the downgrade of firmware 3.03 to firmware 1.5.
Details of what is in the firmware 3.10 release is sketchy, with translations of the Korean text being a little ambiguous.
It would appear that there are some changes to the web browser memory management, allowing picture quality to be degraded if required. There would also appear to be the addition of a recorder, that will allow you to save content streamed from the LocationFree player as MPEG-4 AVC.
I’m sure the fundamental changes for the 3.10 firmware will be security related, Sony will be keen to block the latest downgrader developments, which has left every PSP released to date with the ability to be downgraded.
Note: The release for the USA, Japan and Europe is not yet available. If you are using a standard PSP with standard firmware and you want to upgrade, please wait until the official release is made. You will know when its available if you use the PSP’s built in Network Update option. If you have downgraded your PSP, or are running a custom firmware, do not try to upgrade to the latest firmware when it is released. There are reports of some people bricking their PSP when trying to upgrade to the Korean version of the 3.10 release, when they had been running a custom firmware, or had previosuly downgraded their PSP. Not sure how true these stories are, I would assume anyone who has downgraded, or is running a custom firmware, would avoid trying to upgrade to an official Sony firmware anyway.
