Caterpillar Custom PSP XMB Theme

Having just got the hang of customising the XMB icons on my PSP, I have decided to release another theme for you. While not perfect, its looks pretty funky when used with the wallpaper included in the package. IF you don’t use the included wallpaper, you’ll find the icons have a nasty yellow line around them. This is because I’m using png files with a hint of transparency. However, using the included PSP wallpaper makes everything look ok.

I decided to have a go at creating some icons that move away from the normal techno geek or visata glassy style that everyone seems to be doing (me included), and have gone for something more mechanical.

The icons bear no resemblence to their menu context, but I don’t think that really matters with the PSP. Also note, these screenshots do look washed out compared to the actual icons on the PSP. The software used for taking screenshots seems to struggle giving a true colour representation of the XMB.

Note as well that this includes the modified battery icon.

This download is only suitable for 3.03OE users, 3.10OE users cannot use the custom topmenu_plugin file. To install, download the file below, copy the two rco files into your flash0/vsh/resource/ directory (boot your PSP up in recovery mode and go to advanced > enable flash0 USB). Copy the wallpaper into the photo directory on your PSP (you’ll have to do that via a normal USB connection, not via the recovery menu).

As always, use at your own risk. Modifying the flash0 on your PSP may result in a brick, and I can’t be held responsible!

Download: PSPCulture Caterpillar topmenu_plugin.rco and system_plugin_fg.rco files

Note: These files can be used with the RCO Icon Editor to make your own icons, or used as-is on your PSP. Make sure you back up your original files before overwriting them with the new ones.

And this is the wallpaper that is included in the package:
