No PSP Redesign Imminent
Rumoured for a while, but now squashed, is the redesign of the PSP mid-life, ala DSLite.
IGN have got the news that Sony have stated there will be no redesign of the PSP :
Sony officials refuted the idea that that PSP was in need of a DS Lite-style remake, stating that the system will see no physical alterations. The design will stay the same, but the way interacts with consumers may change.
So what does that mean? Well, I guess its the news that Sony are going to concentrate on getting an online system in place for PSP owners to download content from, and to interact with each other.
This may be related to the news that they are going to create a ‘virtual world’ for the PS3, where you can meet up with friends, play games, and host videos and photos.
I see nothing wrong with the PSP design except in 3 locations:
- Earphone socket: when the earphones are plugged in, it becomes uncomfortable to the left hand. The should’ve placed it in middle of the bottom part, parallel with the USB socket.
- Analog nub: not that it’s placed too low as many complain, but that it’s too flat and gets slippery when thumb gets sweaty.
- Square button: very loose in my PSP. Worse, it produces annoying creaking sound on pressing. That was a dumb move from Sony; to not elongate the system a couple of mms to get away from the screen bezel. Very dumb.
Other than these, the PSP is perfect.
However, I seriously think of visiting Sony’s repair office to check that square button. Very annoying to me.
