More Test Drive Unlimited details

In my previous post I talked about the new (to the PSP) game Test Drive Unlimited, and how much I was enjoying playing it. Well, I’ve spent some more time playing it since I wrote that, and guess what! I’m still loving it.

A few more niggles have come to light since my original review, the main one being that in the super quick cars, you can sometimes be travelling quicker than the processing power of the PSP can handle, so that you effectively drive into the sea (the game is built up in layers, the lowest level being water) as the PSP isn’t quick enough to draw the road and surrounding scenery.

I’ve had a look on the internet, and found that this problem also affects other console versions of the game, not just the PSP version. While it can be annoying, it doesn’t happen that often to be a real issue.

Other issues? Well, the online ranking seems to be screwed slightly, with some of the top ranking players having unbelievable top speed records and milage records. There must be a glitch somewhere in the system, but I’m hoping someone at Atari will be reviewing the online stats and removing any that are obviously bugs in the system.

The number of cars isn’t that big within the game, but some are a real laugh to drive. Personal favourite at the moment is the Koenigsegg CCR (in orange) with a stage 3 tune. Very quick, handles well, and leaves other online players for dead when they come up behind you.

I found a great resource listing all the cars in the PS2 version of the game by class, which I belive is pretty much the same as the PSP version. You can see the full listing here : Test Drive Unlimited PS2 Car List.

I’ve picked out my favourites in each class below:

Class A
Ford GT
Koenigsegg CCR
Lamborghini Murcielago
Pagani Zonda C12S

Class B
Dodge Viper SRT-10 Coupe
Ford Shelby Cobra Concept
Lamborghini Muira P400 SV
Mercedes-Benz CLK55 DTM AMG

Class C
AC 427
Aston Martin Vanquish S V12
Caterham CSR 260
Lotus Sport Exige 240R

Class D
Aston Martin DB4 GT Zagate
Pontiac GTO Coupe

Class E
Jaguar E Type Coupe
Shelby GT500

So, I’m still playing Test Drive Unlimited, so if you fancy a challenge, or just a cruise around the island, add me to your friends list and see if I’m online : GamerTag PSPCulture
