PSP Un-Bricker Released, Fix your Broken PSP’s for Free
Great news for all you homebrew fans, today sees the release of what might well be the most important piece of software for the PSP to date. Titled the ‘Prometheus Project’, a group of hackers and developers have managed to create a software version of the famed Sony Un-Bricker, that converts a standard Sony PSP battery into a device for un-bricking PSP’s.
I had check that it wasn;t the first of April when I first heard this news, as it seems to be too good to be true. The general principle is as follows:
Using a homebrew enabled PSP, you run a program that converts a standard PSP battery into a jigkick battery (the name given to the Sony Un-Bricker). This makes the battery redundant for normal use, so only do this with a spare battery.
You then run a program to generate the memory stick image required to unbrick the PSP. You use a PC to install the image to the memory stick. Its then a case of using the battery and memory stick combination to re-flash the PSP back to a working state.
There are a number of members of the team who have put this all together, and are noted below :
Adrahil, Booster, Cswindle, Dark_AleX , Ditlew, Fanjita, Joek2100, Jim, Mathieulh, Nem, Psp250, Skylark, and TyRaNiD – who should also be recognized in their Create and Destroy (C+D) identities as follows:
Mathieulh = WiseFellow
Tyranid = bockscar
Fanjita = FullerMonty
Joek = CosmicOverSoul
Dark_Alex = Malyot
Chris = Caretaker
Adrahil = VoidPointer
nem = h1ckeyph0rce
You can grab the neccessary files over at PSPUpdates, if you want to give this a try. If I had a spare battery I’d seriously think about creating an Un-Bricker, just to have in case of an emergency. For those of you with bricked PSP’s, get a friend to create the neccessary changes to a battery and memory stick, and then get your PSP back working again.

Hi Dave,
Have you tried creating a pandora’s battery using a 3rd party (non Sony manufactured) battery? Did it work?
My psp’s got a firmware 3.50 m33-3 on it, I was thinking I should just go ahead and upgrade with 3.71 or higher so I could use themes on my psp.
How do I go about it and do I still need to covert my battery since I have some homebrews running on my psp alreay.
my psp,
If you are already running a custom firmware, you simply need to upgrade using the correct custom firmware files, there is no need to convert a battery. The battery is only for standard firmware users who cannot downgrade via the known exploits.
