PSP Datel Battery Tool – Pandora Downgrader Included?

PSP Datel Battery Pack

The above advert shows a Datel Battery with the legend ‘Tool’ written on it. At the moment, there is much speculation as to whether this ‘Tool’ battery uses the Pandora software that turns a standard battery into a device for unbricking/downgrading a PSP (still requires a Memory Stick with the appropriate code on it).

Not sure whether the advert is valid, or a photoshop intended to mislead. I find it hard to believe that Datel (or any other company) that manufactures third party products for the PSP would risk their business by releasing a tool onto the market that could be seen to go against Sony’s desire to stop the homebrew scene.

If this device does make use of the Pandora code released by C+D, it wouldn’t be the first time a company or individual has tried to make money of the back of a developer from the homebrew scene. There are many reported accounts of people trying to sell free homebrew software on places such as eBay. There are also numerous people selling downgraded PSP’s on the open market, trying to cash in on the perceived difficulty of performing the PSP downgrade task.

I hope that this advert is misleading, and Datel haven’t taken advantage of the PSP scene and the developers in an attempt to make a quick buck.

  1. I for one think that it is good that a company such as Datel would releas a product like this, dont get me wrong it is wrong to profit off of the hard work people in the homebrew scene have put into a project such as the pandora battery, but I am one of the many idiots who upgradd their PSPs to version 3.51 and i have no way of downgrading or creating a pandora battery this tool would let be down grade, I would be very interested in buying one of these if it is not a fake. If datel are useing freely avalible code they should donate some of their profits to the developers but i doubt that they will.
