FaceBook on the Sony PSP
PocketGamer have got a tutorial on how to use your PSP to update and browse FaceBook. As I’ve not got a FaceBook account (and nor do I want one), I’ve not actually followed the tutorial step by step to see if it all hangs together, but I thought some of you FaceBookers (is that the right term?) might be interested.
According to the tutorial, you will need the following essential ingredients :
- PSP with firmware 2.0 or higher
- Facebook account
- Wireless network
- Some friends
As I’m two for two on that list, I’ll leave it up to someone else to let me know if it all works.
….actually I think we all knew about being able to use Facebook and Myspace on the PSP when the firmware 2.00 first came out, actually I knew it when I was using the Tenchi No Mon browser. It’s very easy to use Facebook on the PSP, and yes you can upload your photos to the account. Originally if you had the PSP Chotto Shot Digital Camera you could also record your videos from the video record feature from the site. (Facebook added a feature that allows you to use your web-cam on your computer to tape and make videos of yourself and others on the site, basically you can use these to make a direct Vlog.)
However since they updated the feature, it no longer reads the Chotto Shot, and therefore you cannot use this, also for Mac users, it has trouble reading the built in iSight cameras, for me it tapes about 20 seconds in then stops. Well like I stated further up in my comment you can use the PSP to go on to facebook and Myspace.
Facebook
-You can upload and download your photos, even make and manage your current albums.
-You originally could use the video record feature on the site to make your own videos (for Vloging or Web Journaling I suppose)
*Facebook has stated they are going to fix this in the next update so the camera should be able to be used again.*
-The only real problem since they updated is that in some ways the text is hidden or so off, that it’s not on the page. (This can sometime be remedied by switching the view to smart-fit)
-Even with the current error in the video record feature, you can still upload video from your PSP to facebook, even video taken from the Chotto Shot Camera.
All in all Facebook is heavily accessible to the PSP. Hopefully within time they will make it a bit more better but for now it’s pretty good.
Myspace
-Depending on how much media you have in your profile, you can see it. If you have too much there are bound to be errors.
-You can upload your photos sometimes but there seems to be a huge error in uploading also there are issues trying to manage your photos, but depending on the size you can see them in the PSP browser.
-For the most part you can send messages to other people and post bulletins.
-You cannot watch the myspace videos as they are encoded in the latest flash formats. Also you cannot upload videos to your myspace account from the PSP, it has problems uploading from the PSP.
-It’s difficult to see some of your friends profiles because of all the media they would have on the page, leading to a memory error on the PSP’s browser, which makes sense.
All in all myspace isn’t the best site for your PSP, you can use it but the real problem is that you can’t really enjoy it too much. Depending on the media of the page will hugely effect the load time of the page, if it will let you load it at all.
Well that’s just my observation and results of having been online with the PSP since 2005. If there is anything I left out of my comment that you guys think needed to be here, I apologize for that.
