Paying to downgrade your PSP Firmware Version

Having had a look on eBay, its become obvious that a number of people are trying to make money off the back of the work done by Dark_AleX by selling the software required to downgrade your PSP to firmware 1.5.

If you’ve looked at purchasing the software off one of these eBay sellers, please bear in mind that the software is readily available online for free, and should not be charged for.

While I have little problem in people offering to downgrade your PSP to firmware 1.5 for a coupole of beers or a packet of sweets, I’m really against anyone profiteering from selling the technology to perform the downgrade when its freely available.

If you want to downgrade your PSP but don’t have the expertise, ask around at school or work, there are plenty of people who have performed the downgrade procedure who will be willing to give you a guiding hand.

As for the costs associated with downgrading – if you can beg, borrow or steal (well, not steal) a Pandora battery, your costs should be zero. If you need to create a Pandora battery yourself, then its simply the cost of a new battery, if you don’t already have a spare one.

It is possible to make a Pandora battery that will still work as normal, but it is better (in my opinion) to get a spare battery and sacrifice your old one to convert it into a Pandora battery.

My only warning is that if you can’t afford to buy a new battery, its unlikely you’ll be able to afford a new PSP if it all goes horribly wrong and your PSP becomes toast. While the chances of this are slim, its still a risk and one you should consider carefully.

NOTE: If you are asking a PSP related question, please state your firmware version, as this will usually impact on the response you get. Please also state whether you are an experienced PSP owner or new to the PSP scene, as this will determine the level of detail in any answer I may provide. Thanks, Dave.
