ELSPA catch man selling pirated PSP games

Great result for ELSPA in their battle against software pirates, having managed to collar the guy behind an illegal business conducted from Tower Hamlets. The unnamed man was caught selling PSP games and various chipping offences.

Over £12k was found secreted within the bodies of three PS2′s and an xBox, after the ELSPA investigators opened up the consoles to check for illegal chipping.

Cash discovery aside, the man had been selling PSP games on SD memory cards (he was caught in possession of an estimated 75) and providing an Xbox and PlayStation 2 chipping service. Consequently, a POCA (Proceeds Of Crime Act) investigation has already started to estimate the criminal gain from his illegal activities.

Not sure why anyone would be selling PSP games on an SD memory card, unless they mean Pro Duo cards. Regardless, the question remains as to whether performing a PSP firmware downgrade for someone could be construed as ‘chipping’ the device, and be deemed illegal in the eyes of the law? Your thoughts?
