Now a PS3 Owner

Well, its been a while. Nearly 12 months since I last posted anything here on PSPCulture. There are numerous excuses, but the main one is that I stopped using my PSP quite so much, and that meant I stopped keeping up with the latest developments in the PSP world.

I do still use my PSP, but not as regularly, mainly because any gaming time is now taken up with either the Wii or PS3.  I’ve only just got the PS3, having fought the urge for quite a while, but a recent 20% off at a well known supermarket chain dropped the price to £199 (for the new 120gb slim model) and I could no longer resist.

I’ve yet to get a flat screen HD tv, so at the moment its plugged into a relatively small (by todays standards) crt, so I’m not making the most of the PS3’s capabilities, but I’m sure that will be resolved soon. Initial thoughts on the PS3 is that its a very capable multimedia machine, streaming music and videos from my PC without any difficulty, and the built in iPlayer and vidzone software is flawless in content, if a little underwhelming in design (especially the vidzone software, which has little consistency with button layout etc.)

Games on the PS3 are as you’d expect, graphically strong with reasonable replay value. Currently I’m battling my way through GT5 Prologue (in anticipation of Gt5 finally being released neat year) and Call of Duty: Modern Warefare 2 (bloody to the extreme). I’ve also been playing plenty of demos from the Playstation store, and on the buy list is Need for Speed Shift and PES2010 after having played both of these demos at length over the last week or so.

I’ll try and write some more about the PS3, and start writing again about the PSP, once I’ve caught up with the latest news.
