CNet Bans Homebrew Talk

Interesting info coming through about CNets updated terms of service. It appears that any talk on their GameFAQ’s forums about homebrew is banned, as it is now considered an illegal activity. This is a strange decision, as homebrew itself is hardly a cause for great concern - ther eare many homebrew applications and games written from scratch for the PSP, as well as many other gaming devices.

I can understand the issue being more to do with how a gaming device (such as the PSP) is converted to run a homebrew application, but even that isn’t as clear cut as many companies would make out.

GameFAQs is about to update its TOS. The new document will be roughly the same as GameSpot’s current TOS. The largest and most noticeable change is the inclusion of homebrew under the Illegal Activities rule. That’s why all the stickies have gone - even CJayC’s, because it is no longer correct.

I do wonder if this is a decision reached due to advertising pressures as opposed to any real legal grounding, but regardless, there are plenty of other places to discuss the joys of homebrew games and apps, and if they feel they can cope with the loss in readership then its their decision.

  1. Hi,

I work with a client who is interested in some visibility on your website http://www.pspculture.co.uk/. They work in a similar niche and provides game reviews to
their users. They are interested in getting a short mention from your website, maybe about a game or about their site.

Let me know if you are interested so we can discuss the price for this.

    Regards,
