New SanDisk 4gb UltraII Memory Stick Pro Duo
I eventually got round to ordering a new Memory Stick Pro Duo, and decided to get the UltraII version from SanDisk. I paid just over £30 for it, which is a sizeable difference from the last 4GB card I bought about 14 months ago.
Performance wise - I’m hard pressed to tell much difference between it and the standard 4GB SanDisk card - I could test transfer speeds and the suchlike, but as I’m not that concerned about it, I’ll just accept its probably a bit quicker!
The real benefit of having two 4GB cards is that I can fill one up with music and films, great for being on holiday and wanting to entertain either myself or my son, while being able to keep another card chock full of homebrew games and apps.
Using Xvid4PSP, I converted a number of DVD’s to PMP format prior to going away, which meant that there was plenty to keep a four year old occupied on the plane trip out. With the wi-fi switched off, the battery (still my original 2 year old Sony battery) lasted well over 8 hours before needing to see the charger. I had been worried that the current rules and regs for flying might mean using the PSP onboard the flight wouldn’t be allowed, but the airline didn’t bother me at all, which is a real bonus - I know of people with Nintendo DS’s and PSP’s who have been asked not to use the handhelds whilst flying, which must be a real pain when you’ve got a long haul flight to get through.
