PSP Firmware Rumours - Version 4

Plenty of rumours doing the rounds at the moment about the next Sony PSP firmware release. Currently thought to be scheduled for release on the 18th March, a couple of the touted features include:

  • Real, Quicktime, and WMV audio and video codecs are now supported.
  • PSP web browser has been updated to allow compatibility with current websites.
  • Adobe Flash Player 9 has been added as a feature, using the Memory Stick Pro Duo as flash memory.
  • Not sure how much of this is true - native video capability of the Quicktime and WMV codecs is certainly appealing, and support for Flash 9 sounds great, although I’m concerned over how quick this will run.

Of course, using a custom firmware means that upgrading to a new official PSP firmware is ruled out anyway, but its always interesting to see which direction Sony are going with the PSP.
